BSA Motors, A TI Group company has unveiled 5 electric bike models in New delhi , out of which three are in 250W , one in 500W and 1 in 800W capacity. The brief description of models are

Smile : This model was launched targeting teenagers , maximum speed of 25 kmph, 250W and doesn’t require licence , with a cost of Rs.19,450 ex-showroom Delhi.

Diva : For Teenage girls , maximu speed of 25 kmph, 250W and doesn’t require licence and with a cost of Rs. 24,500 exshowroom Delhi.

It's just been a few months since Tesla announced that it has achieved its first month of profitability, primarily based upon the strength of their Roaster product. To date, they've sold over 700 of the vehicles mostly in the U.S. and Europe, and they recently completed a 241 mile alternative energy rally in Monte Carlo, a feat previously impossible for a production electric vehicle.

India is the second-largest market for two-wheelers in the world, next only to China. In 2008-09, Indians bought over 7.4 million two-wheelers – motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, step-thrus and electric two-wheelers. This year, the market has so far grown at over 17 per cent. If the trend holds for the rest of the year, 2009-10 could end with two-wheeler sales in excess of 8 million.

The opportunity was simply too good for Mahindra & Mahindra to resist for long. In the last few years, it has evolved from tractors to commercial vehicles and passenger cars. Two-wheelers were the only gap in its portfolio. If plugged, the company could straddle the entire spectrum of automobiles. There were advantages and disadvantages. First the negatives: The market for two-wheelers is as different from utility vehicles as cheese from chalk. And motorcycles comprise over 80 per cent of the market. The competition is cutthroat. It is not easy to gain an inch from street fighters such as Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto and TVS.

Understanding of various features observed in existing Electric bikes

As already discussed, electric bike drive system is power electronic based and embedded based control. Due to this, this technology got the advantage of implementation of various value adding features. This story is true for electric bikes from any country i.e. India, China, Taiwan or any other. In this article we will discuss these features in brief

1. Current Limit – As Electric bike is powered by battery, the power drawn from the battery depends on the load and hence there should be control over the current drawn from the battery otherwise, battery & motor life may effect. This can be easily implemented by power electronic based BLDC Controller using some hardware and software implementations. This feature allows only fixed current and limits the maximum current to the programmed value. Bike would continue to run in this condition.
2. Over Current cut-off: As battery current drawn is out of our control and is limited by load, road conditions, we can set a maximum current point, where the drive system will shut down automatically and only can start with ignition key restarted.
3. Low/High speed set: This features is good parental feature which will set the bike to run at two different speeds. This allows the costumer to fix the speed based on their urgency. Low speed set will give more drive range but of course kills your time.
4. Cruise control: This feature being used in aero planes & luxury cars but now available only in electric bikes due to its easy implementation with its technology. Using Cruise control feature the vehicle can be continuously run at a desired speed and throttle can be released.
