Electric vehicles society seeks stringent regulations for EV players - wheelsunplugged.com

At a time when a regulatory body appears an unwelcome guest for any industry, Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) which currently has 30 members from two, three and four wheelers besides the auto components manufacturers is seeking stringent regulatory norms to be imposed on players in the sector with the help of Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). ARAI is an authorised testing agency under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, since 1989, as notified by the Ministry of Shipping Road Transport and Highways, for testing and certifying vehicles and engines.
According to a senior representative of a leading electric two-wheeler company,” We are asking ARAI to make low-speed vehicle norms more stringent to restrict the entry of non-serious players in the sector. There are four-five serious players in the market, while the rest are simply fly-by-night operators, as told by the representative to ‘The Hindu Business Line’.
