Bio-fuels, electric cars don't suit India ! Do you agree?

See what's happening in India regarding electric vehicles ?

Minister of state for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh came down against the use of bio-fuels in automobiles, saying food security concerns were the priority.
On the sidelines of an automobiles event in New Delhi, Ramesh said, ''We should take a cautious approach towards it (bio-fuel) as its production would require land and crops. It will be difficult as there are other needs like food security in the country.'' as in the news @  http://www.evhub.in/news/262#262

See what's happening in USA regarding electric vehicles ?

President Barak Obama has now got his dream car, the hybrid car Chevy Volt, produced only after intervention from government and labour union- owned Government Motors. as in the news @  http://www.evhub.in/news/266#266

We all know that government has to initiate incentives, programs  to promote electric vehicles. But in India, government representatives are commenting as stated above which will be de-motivating more than 50 number of electric vehicle manufacturers (as published in http://www.evhub.in) in India. This type of comments are not recommended by responsible persons, when already hundreds of crores(10 millions) invested on it.  In contrast, we can see how US government is involving to promote electric vehicles. The difference is attitude.

This news compilation is to expose the attitudes of governments  towards the GREEN Technologies. EVHUB.IN as the common platform for electric vehicles, requests the Indian government to change the attitude towards this technologies and help this market to grow for the good of Mother Earth.

Should the Government Subsidize Electric Cars?

Last week, General Motors revealed that its new plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt would cost at least $41,000. With a $7,500 government credit, that price will drop to around $33,500. That price, however, still puts it out of reach for many Americans. Via Slate, Charles Lane wrote a scathing article last week about the government consequently providing a pricey subsidy to wealthy Americans. But Daniel Gross, also through Slate, says that the process of innovation often requires such government assistance, and the poor will ultimately be better off because of it. Who has it right?
Here's the heart of Gross's argument for why the credit makes sense:
We're in a period of slack demand and low capacity utilization, with lots of empty factories, buildings, and stores. Companies are sitting on hoards of cash. In a time like this, they need special inducements--bribes, incentives, tax breaks--to make large new investments. In such a climate, the government has to give industry a nudge to get off its rear. And there are signs that the $2.4 billion in grants that the Department of Energy made to spur electric vehicle production is doing just that.

An Esoteric Presentation On Electric Bikes In India

This Article was shared by one of EVHUB's esteemed visitors Mr. G.Raghavan via email.

"Just like food and water, personnel mobility is a necessity of human existence
Poor and developing nations like India depend largely on I/C engine for 2wheeler for the mobility of it's working n middle class .As a result of this India has emerged as the largest manufacturer of 2 W bikes/scooters in the world (even over taking china-incidentally 12 provinces of china has banned the use of I/c engine)
Basically I/C engine vehicle offers convenience, low cost; range also does not require grid power, the fall out of this
a)      Many players have emerged as manufacturers
b)      Created well established service net work
c)      Development of component suppliers
d)      Created skill jobs locally
The negatives:-
a)      Energy conversion in I/C engines is only 20% on calorific value
b)      Spews large quantities of carbon di oxide an environment threat
c)      Huge noise pollution
d)     Under dense city traffic wastage of fuel at signals due to idling
The futility of depending on "Fossil Fuels" has been an impetus to look for alternate solutions and energy.

On the solution side a paradigm shift towards usage of electric vehicle/ battery operated transport mechanism is on the horizon, this has brought about a lot of R&D work and demonstrable benefits (more of it later), on the energy side Renewable energy like wind, solar etc are making inroads into the established methods of power generation with evident benefits of green energy.
Hence the alternate to personnel transport could be an electrically powered vehicle
The main constraints associated with E-Bike/Scooters are
  1. Cost along with battery
  2. Range
  3. Inconvenience
  4. After sale service
  5. Power requirements

Dwelling on each of the above issues
