See what's happening in India regarding electric vehicles ?
Minister of state for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh came down against the use of bio-fuels in automobiles, saying food security concerns were the priority.
On the sidelines of an automobiles event in New Delhi, Ramesh said, ''We should take a cautious approach towards it (bio-fuel) as its production would require land and crops. It will be difficult as there are other needs like food security in the country.'' as in the news @ http://www.evhub.in/news/262#262
See what's happening in USA regarding electric vehicles ?
President Barak Obama has now got his dream car, the hybrid car Chevy Volt, produced only after intervention from government and labour union- owned Government Motors. as in the news @ http://www.evhub.in/news/266#266
We all know that government has to initiate incentives, programs to promote electric vehicles. But in India, government representatives are commenting as stated above which will be de-motivating more than 50 number of electric vehicle manufacturers (as published in http://www.evhub.in) in India. This type of comments are not recommended by responsible persons, when already hundreds of crores(10 millions) invested on it. In contrast, we can see how US government is involving to promote electric vehicles. The difference is attitude.
This news compilation is to expose the attitudes of governments towards the GREEN Technologies. EVHUB.IN as the common platform for electric vehicles, requests the Indian government to change the attitude towards this technologies and help this market to grow for the good of Mother Earth.

Regarding first generation biofuels there are obvious concerns with respect to availability of feedstocks or potential trade-offs with food or biodiversity but as far as electric vehicles are concerned the minister's statement appears quite callous. No-body is demanding that one should immediately shift to renewables for electricity generation as that may not be feasible albeit desirable. But even with current source of electricity generation from coal, one can still think of progressively reducing dependence on fossil fuel for directly fuelling the vehicles. Natural gas undoubtedly is a viable alternative in the short to middle run but adequate infrastructure pertaining to its transmission and distribution are yet to be put in place, albeit KGD6 started pumping in full swing. Similarly, with adequate charging infrastructure/smart grid in place (which may not necessarily be prohibitive in terms of cost), one can rightly think of going ahead with electric vehicles, even with the current lead acid batteries that are in use. So,an irresponsible statement like this from a person representing the state simply acts as a dampener for the vast potential with respect to innovation in electric vehicles that we have in India. Look at China and their extent of progress with respect to hybrid and electric vehicles and the role the state had played in promoting these vehicles. No body is asking for a complete overhaul in the fuel base of vehicles but there is absolutely no harm in diversifying the fuel base in terms of reducing our dependence on imported crude and saving on our precious foreign exchange.
Very interesting response.
I wish to bring an incident which took place at Bangalore about 20Years back. Some group of people at Bangalore fecilitated a "Top Officer of Indian Army" who hailed from our proud district "Coorg". Before the speach from the "Top Officer" the electricity power went off due to unknown reason. Everybody was shocked due to the situation, then our chief guest pulled out a candle and a match box from his coat pocket and said "be prepared".
This is how our "Top Ranked Officer" was responsible in his duties and his commitement to the country.
But our minister has demotivated the individuals who are working on the Bio Fuels with this sort of unwanted expressions.
